This program is produced by the Regulatory Training Center to address targeted plant concerns within a facility that warrants special training. This course a site-specific for Marathon Catlettsburg that discusses Hot Tap/In Service Welding. The purpose of this training module is to provide requirements for safely conducting hot tapping and in-service welding operations.

In-service welding and hot tapping are potentially hazardous activities because of the hazardous nature of the materials present. Therefore, every reasonable effort must be made to minimize the use of in-service welds and hot taps and to ensure that when they are necessary that they are made safely.

This training module reviews the evaluation of the need to perform an in-service weld or hot tap, as well as establish a specific sequence of steps to be followed when performing the work.
